1 The young reference group comprised a gender-specific group from 18 to 40 years old.
2 Participants with class I sarcopenia were those with a height-adjusted or weight-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index between one and two standard deviations below the mean of the gender-specific young reference group.
3 Participants with class II sarcopenia were those with a height-adjusted or weight-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index more than two standard deviations below the mean of the gender-specific young reference group.
Multiple logistic regression was performed, adjusting for age.

4 Sarcopenic obesity refers to participants with class II sarcopenia, as defined by a weight-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index more than two standard deviations below the mean of the gender-specific young reference group, as well as falling into the two highest quintiles of total body fat percentage.
